Let’s be real, the holiday season can be a bit stressful as a parent. And let me tell you….it can be pretty freaking draining as a full time fashion blogger around the holiday season. After all, we’re the ones who are supposed to be flooding your feed with all the good Black Friday sales, right? Well, this year, I needed a tiny break from all of the superficial chaos that comes along with the industry I’m in.
We knew we wanted to take the boys somewhere fun over Thanksgiving break since we had my oldest son this year, but we also didn’t have time to do any sort of extended trip. I had always heard amazing things about The Gaylord Texan Resort, but I didn’t realize how much fun it would be for us adults as well!
The funny thing is, the resort is only about forty minutes from our house, yet it felt like we were NOWHERE near Dallas. That was one of the coolest parts in my opinion; we got to get away from the city without venturing too far out. It was refreshing, beautiful, and there was no shortage of things to do. We knew we were only able to stay one night, so we tried to pack as many fun filled things into this little staycation as we could with a five and fourteen year old. 😉
We checked out the trains, ran into Santa (as you can see, I was even more excited than Knox), and then we went to do all the ice things! It was such a unique experience for all of us and one that we won’t ever forget. Knox has been dying to see snow for so long, and when you live in Texas, sometimes The Gaylord is the next best thing.
Last night after all of the ice adventures, we went back to our hotel room and settled in to enjoy some AMAZING room service! It was the perfect way to end the night, and Knox was tired enough that he wanted to just enjoy the cozy bed and the beautiful view of the Christmas lights. 🙂
Seeing this kid literally LIGHT UP when he saw our view of the lights from the hotel window….absolutely priceless. Knox literally said, “look how beautiful this is,” multiple times during our stay. I could actually cry tears of joy right now just thinking about it.
We ended our little staycation by going ice skating together for the first time! I looked like an absolute idiot out there on the ice, but man was that fun. I didn’t bring any makeup or hair stuff (or even proper shoes if you watched my IG stories, haha) but I didn’t care one bit. It was incredibly refreshing to say the least and I felt like a kid again for the first time in a really long time. And that’s a feeling you’ve really gotta savor these days.
The next time you’re looking for a fun little getaway, check out The Gaylord Texan Resort. It’s perfect for the entire family and it’ll make you feel like a kid again…something I feel we can all use a little more of.
P.S. Make sure you pack gloves and a beanie. 😉 xo
